Noted flaw(s) — photographed above: ASE MASTER MECHANIC TEST NOTES & FLAWS NOTED DURING TESTING: (1 - RUNNING ENGINE TEST NOTES): Engine runs good. It starts right up, idle is nice and smooth, and wide open throttle snap sounds good. The oil quality looks good and there is no smoke from tail pipes. There are no unusual noises from operating engine; (2 - POST REMOVAL INSPECTION NOTES): Engine overall looks good. I did note a little oil weep around valve cover and rear main. There is possibly some oil weeping from oil pan as well, but if so it is very faint. The turbocharger has some hairline cracks which is pretty typical on these, but should be watched. It will need serpintine belt and water pump (which has some play in it). I always suggest doing any maintenance items (timing chains/belts/guides/tensioners, gaskets, front & rear main seals, water pump, spark plugs, ignition coils, filters, expansion plugs, valve lash) before installing any used engine as it is much easier to access while it is out of vehicle.

In-car test: ENGINE RUNS GREAT, SOUNDS LIKE IT MAY HAVE AN EXHAUST LEAK SO WILL INSPECT TURBO ONCE ENGINE OUT OF CAR. RADIATOR WASN’T HIT SO COOLING SYSTEM AND OIL COOLERS WERENT COMPROMISED. PENDING A GOOD COMPRESSION TEST AND PHYSICAL CHECK THIS WILL BE KEPT WHOLE.

Out-of-car inspection: OVERALL ENGINE LOOKS GOOD. DID NOTE A LITTLE OIL WEEP AROUND VALVE COVER AND REAR MAIN, POSSIBLY OIL PAN BUT VERY FAINT. NOTED HAIRLINE CRACKS IN TURBO CHARGER HOUSING (PRETTY TYPICAL ON THESE) HIGHLIGHTED BLUE FOR PICS. WILL NEED SERPINTINE BELT AND WATER PUMP HAS A LITTLE PLAY. AS ALWAYS SUGGEST ANY MAINTENANCE ITEMS BE CARRIED OUT BEFORE INSTALLING ENGINE.
