ASE MASTER MECHANIC TEST NOTES & FLAWS NOTED DURING TESTING: (1 – RUNNING ENGINE TEST NOTES): Engine runs great with smooth idle and strong throttle snap. No smoke or unusual ticking was noted, and the turbo sounded normal during operation. (2 – POST REMOVAL INSPECTION NOTES): Overall engine looks good for a used unit. Inspector noted oil leaks around the timing cover and valve covers, with possible seepage at the oil pan (may be oil from the timing cover). The turbo showed a fair amount of radial play and some axial play, indicating wear. Replacement with a better-condition turbo is recommended if available. As always, replacement of standard service and wear items (timing components, plugs, injectors, pumps, seals, gaskets, filters) is advised before installation.

In-car test: ENGINE RUNS GREAT, RADIATOR WASN’T HIT SO COOLANT SUPPLY WASN’T COMPROMISED. PENDING A COMPRESSION TEST AND PHYSICAL CHECK THIS WILL BE A UNIT.

Out-of-car inspection: OVERALL LOOKS GOOD FOR A USED ENGINE. DID NOTE SOME OIL LEAKING AROUND THE AREAS OF THE TIMING COVER AND VALVE COVERS, POSSIBLY THE OIL PAN AS WELL BUT MAY JUST BE OIL FROM TIMING COVER, ALSO NOTED TURBO HAS A FAIR AMOUNT OF RADIAL PLAY AND SOME AXIAL PLAY SO ITS WEARING OUT (WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST CUSTOMER USE THEIR TURBO IF IN BETTER SHAPE). AS ALWAYS, RECOMMEND ANY SERVICE AND WEAR ITEMS SUCH AS TIMING CHAINS, BELTS, GUIDES , TENSIONERS, SPARK PLUGS , INJECTORS, PUMPS, SEALS ,GASKETS AND FI...
