ASE MASTER MECHANIC TEST NOTES & FLAWS NOTED DURING TESTING: (1 – RUNNING ENGINE TEST NOTES): Engine runs great with very smooth idle and strong throttle snap. No smoke or unusual ticking was noted. Turbos sounded good overall, though a little wastegate rattle was present on cold start, which is typical for this platform. (2 – POST REMOVAL INSPECTION NOTES): Overall engine looks good. Inspector observed slight oil weep from the valve covers and around the upper timing covers, with possible seepage at the oil pan. Turbos showed a little radial play but minimal axial movement, and some wastegate play, which is common for this engine type. As always, replacement of standard service and wear items (timing components, plugs, injectors, pumps, seals, gaskets, filters) is recommended before installation.

In-car test: ENGINE RUNS GOOD, IDLE IS VERY SMOOTH AND WIDE OPEN SNAP SOUNDS GOOD. PENDING A COMPRESSION TEST AND PHYSICAL CHECK THIS WILL BE A UNIT.

Out-of-car inspection: ENGINE LOOKS GOOD, DID NOTE SLIGHT WEEP OF OIL FROM VALVE COVERS AND AROUND UPPER TIMING COVERS POSSIBLY OIL PAN AS WELL BUT ITS VERY FAINT. TURBOS HAVE A LITTLE RADIAL PLAY BUT NOT BAD, THEY ALSO HAVE SOME WASTE GATE PLAY (COMMON TO THESE). AS ALWAYS, RECOMMEND ANY SERVICE AND WEAR ITEMS SUCH AS TIMING CHAINS, BELTS, GUIDES , TENSIONERS, SPARK PLUGS , INJECTORS, PUMPS, SEALS ,GASKETS AND FILTER BE SERVICED BEFORE ENGINE BE PUT BACK INTO SERVICE.
