ASE MASTER MECHANIC TEST NOTES & FLAWS NOTED DURING TESTING: (1 – RUNNING ENGINE TEST NOTES): Engine runs good with smooth idle and strong throttle snap. Oil was checked and appeared good. No smoke or abnormal ticking was present. Turbos sounded good, though a little wastegate rattle was noted on cold start, which is typical for this platform. (2 – POST REMOVAL INSPECTION NOTES): Overall engine looks good. Inspector noted oil leaks at the timing cover and oil pan at a fair rate, which should be repaired before installation. Turbos showed some wastegate play and slight radial play but minimal axial movement; compressor wheels were in good shape. As always, we recommend replacement of common service and wear items (timing components, plugs, injectors, pumps, seals, gaskets, filters) prior to installation.

In-car test: ENGINE RUNS GOOD, IDLE IS SMOOTH AND WIDE OPEN SNAP SOUNDS GOOD, A LITTLW WASTE GATE RATTLE ON COLD START. PENDING A COMPRESSION TEST AND PHYSICAL CHECK THIS WILL BE A UNIT.

Out-of-car inspection: OVER ALL THE ENGINE LOOKS GOOD, TIMING COVER IS LEAKING OIL AS IS OIL PAN AT A FAIR RATE SO WOULD SUGGEST DOING THOSE BEFORE PUTTING ENGINE BACK INTO SERVICE, DID NOTE A LITTLE WASTE GATE PLAY ON TURBOS AND SOME RADIAL PLAY BUT NOT MUCH IF ANY AXIAL MOVEMENT. COMPRESSORS IN GOOD SHAPE. AS ALWAYS, RECOMMEND ANY SERVICE AND WEAR ITEMS SUCH AS TIMING CHAINS, BELTS, GUIDES , TENSIONERS, SPARK PLUGS , INJECTORS, PUMPS, SEALS ,GASKETS AND FILTER BE SERVICED BEFORE ENGINE BE PUT BACK INTO SERVICE.
