ASE Master Mechanic Inspection

Hands-on tested before listing by Mike on August 6, 2025

ASE MASTER MECHANIC TEST NOTES & FLAWS NOTED DURING TESTING: (1 – RUNNING ENGINE TEST NOTES): Engine runs good with smooth idle and strong throttle snap. Cooling system intact and hydrocarbon test negative. No smoke or ticking noted. Turbo boosts properly but has audible wastegate rattle on cold start. (2 – POST REMOVAL INSPECTION NOTES): Overall engine looks okay. Oil filter housing gasket and oil pressure switch both leaking and must be replaced. Additional oil seep noted at oil pan. Turbo shows radial play and wastegate looseness; customer may prefer reusing their own if in better condition. Inspector also noted an aftermarket valve cover installed. As always, replacement of timing components, plugs, injectors, pumps, seals, gaskets, and filters is recommended before installation for long-term reliability.

Note: DIDNT DO COMPRESSION ON THIS ENGINE, IT TAKES ABOUT 4 HOURS TO GET IN AND DO IT AND THEN RE ASSEBLE THE MOTOR. I LIEU OF LEAVING IT AS A LONG BLOCK WE HAVE DECIDED TO NOT COMPRESSION TEST THESE.

In-car test: ENGINE RUNS GOOD, IDLE QUALITY IS NICE AND SMOOTH AND WIDE OPEN SNAP SOUNDS GOOD, RADIATOR WASN’T HIT SO COOLING SYSTEM WASN’T COMPROMISED. PENDING A COMPRESSION TEST AND PHYSICAL CHECK THIS WILL BE A UNIT.

Out-of-car inspection: OVERALL ENGINE LOOKS GOOD, DID NOTE A LITTLE OIL WEEP AROUND VALVE COVERS, AND POSSIBLY OIL PAN BUT ITS VERY FAINT. TURBO HAS SLIGHT RADIAL PLAY BUT ALMOST NO AXIAL PLAY AND COMPRESSOR LOOKS GOOD. AS ALWAYS, RECOMMEND ANY SERVICE AND WEAR ITEMS SUCH AS TIMING CHAINS, BELTS, GUIDES , TENSIONERS, SPARK PLUGS , INJECTORS, PUMPS, SEALS ,GASKETS AND FILTER BE SERVICED BEFORE ENGINE BE PUT BACK INTO SERVICE.
