ASE Master Mechanic Inspection

Hands-on tested before listing by Mike on July 31, 2026

(1 - RUNNING ENGINE TEST NOTES): Engine runs great, starts right up, idle is smooth, and wide-open throttle snap sounds good. Oil quality looks good and there's no smoke from the tailpipes. No unusual noises heard from the operating engine. (2 - POST REMOVAL INSPECTION NOTES): Engine overall looks solid with no major issues found during teardown. Valve cover shows an oil leak, turbo leaking around gasket area, could indicate a hairline crack as this is very common for these turbos. Will also need new accessory belt. (3 - SHOULD ALWAYS BE DONE): Replacement of timing components, plugs, injectors, pumps, seals, gaskets, hoses, and filters should be done prior to installation for long-term reliability.

A LITTLE WASTE GATE RATTLE ON COLD START BUT GOES AWAY

Noted: Valve cover is weeping oil

Noted: Oil pan has a very light weep

Note: Turbo manifold has either bad gasket or hairline crack (very common on these)

Note: Will need new accessory belt

In-car test: Engine runs good, idle is nice and smooth and wide open throttle snap sounds good. Pending a compression test and physical check this will be a unit.

Out-of-car inspection: Overall engine looks good. Did note oil leaking around valve cover, turbo leaking around gasket area (possibly a hairline crack as well, very common on these turbos). will need new accessory belt as well. As always, I recommend any service and wear items such as timing chains, belts, guides , tensioners, spark plugs , injectors, pumps, seals, gaskets and filter be serviced before engine is put back into service.
